Tips for maintaining the appearance of your carpet

1. Vacuuming  ... Seems obvious, however most folks do not vacuum often enough It does seem obvious. Vacuuming is an essential task. Regular cleaning of dirt and dust that are on the surface will keep them from settling in deep. Do  not wait until your carpet looks dirty before vacuuming. when  you vacuum (at least once a week) take your time and do a thorough job. vacuum your carpet both directions so as to pick up the most dirt you can.
2. Clean carpet stains with club soda The carbonation in club soda works to effectively remove carpet stains. Pour the soda on the stain, and then blot. If you use a large amount, you may want to remove excess liquid with a shop vac.
3. apply ice to remove gum and melted wax Ice is a good method for removing wax from your carpet. Get to the wax before it has a chance to work to far into the fibers of the carpet. Once you ice it you can remove the solidified pieces a little at a time. reapplication of ice may be required. This technique also works well for gum.
4. You can use salt on red wine spills this is a technique which is effective if you get to the spill right away. Pour a generous amount of salt on the spill to absorb the red wine before it can work it way into the fibers of the carpet.
5. For most spills, if you get to them right away, blotting with a clean absorbent cloth does wonders If you catch a spill when it happens, blotting with a clean cloth is easily one of the best carpet cleaning methods. The cloth will absorb the moisture, lifting the potential stain along with it. If a stain is still visible after all of the liquid is absorbed, you can then turn to another cleaning strategy specific to the type of stain.
6. Use vinegar and water Use vinegar diluted with cold water (always use cold water so you do not set the stain in) as a great natural cleaning solution. Use the solution on a cloth and blot the stain. For tougher stains utilize a higher concentration of vinegar.
7. And, of course, use a steam cleaner Professional steam cleaning is recommended to insure the overall process is effective and safe for your carpet
